The week day Comics section of the Houston Chronicle under went a change a few days ago. They eliminated several strips from the pages of the section, enough to cut down one page of comics. They can still be found online, but saving money on printing was too important for the paper to save the space for the strips.

Screen Writers’ Strike
Will the current screen writers’ strike last long, or will there be a quick resolution. The last one was an extended affair and the writers feel they got the short end of the deal. That makes me think this one will last long too. I guess I will have to watch more re-runs of Law and Order.

Grandpa’s Game Cocks
My paternal grandfather lived in a very small community in northeastern Arkansas. He farmed, raised beagle hounds and game cocks. His roosters were very aggressive, I was afraid when I fed them. Once in a while he would put little “boxing gloves” (he called them duffs) on the spurs of the roosters and would let them fight. It was very intense and fascinating to watch. He never took his roosters to cock fights, but sometimes some guys from Memphis would come over and buy one of Grandpa’s prize birds for big bucks.
